After a distinguished career in the Foreign Service, Pam Callen now devotes her time to painting the landscapes, wildlife, and quiet beauty of the mid-Atlantic coast—especially the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. These peaceful settings, along with the surrounding rural scenes of Southern Maryland, became places of rest and reflection for her during breaks between overseas assignments. Today, they serve as the heart of her artistic inspiration.
Pam's journey into painting began as a way to slow down and more deeply observe the world around her. Through this process, she developed a strong connection to her subjects—whether it’s the interplay of color and light in a still life, the serenity of a shoreline, or a fleeting moment from her travels. Her work reflects a deep appreciation for nature, with a particular affinity for water and its calming, restorative presence.
Her artistic training includes study at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia; workshops with accomplished instructors in Arlington, Virginia; and numerous classes both abroad and throughout Southern Maryland. In Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties, she continues to explore new techniques and share in the region’s vibrant creative community.
